The devil's in the detail
Apr. 9th, 2010 08:59 pmSome lessons I have learnt this week about passing.
I've had a cold this week and that affects my voice. It puts it down to closer to a male range rather than a female one. I was, to be honest, looking forward to perhaps having a few people slip up and misgender me down the phone. It didn't happen. And I know why. Whilst my voice was deeper than normal, and within range for a cis man, my pattern of speech was feminine. I sounded male but talked like a woman.
The devil's in the detail and I got a whole lot of learning and figuring out to do before I can pass. This, on one hand feels like a real real challenge, and on the other hand it kind of feels like a fantastic challenge to be facing. The devil's in the detail, and today that's ok. Tomorrow who knows? but today that's okay.
PS I am actually lonely and fairly sad, but otherwise ain't so bad.
